Apple Theme Sight Words Activities (High Frequency Words Literacy First)

Do you need a fun way for your students to interact with sight words?  I created an apple themed sight word packet.  In this packet students will be able to engage and have fun.  I use this activity during my apple theme.  I like to place the different activities around the classroom during center time and give students the opportunity to do each activity.  My students love the variety.  In this activity students can play Go Fish, Memory, Matching, and etc with the cards that are provided.  There is a file folder game that students can play too.

In this packet you will find:

  • Apple Baskets Sight Word Cards
  • Green, Yellow, Red, and Black and White Apple Sight Words
  • Small Green, Yellow, Red, and Black and White Apple Sight Words
  • File Folder Game
  • Apple Sight Word Tree Pages
  • Apples and Apple Trees Writing Pages
  • Apple Sight Word Book
  • Apple Sight Word Worksheet

I used the first 100 High Frequency Words from Literacy First in the Word Cards, Apple Sight Words, Small Apple Sight Words, and Apple Sight Word Trees

Ideas on how to use the Apple Basket Sight Word Cards or Apple Sight Words:

  1. You can play Go Fish or Memory
  2. Hide the cards around the room and have students find them.
  3. Hide the cards around your classroom.  Students will find the sight words and daub or color the sight word on the black and white Apple Sight Word Page or write them in the apple or tree sight word writing page.
  4. You can play games like mingle or 2 circles.

File Folder Game

Print off 2 sight word trees and 2 small apple sight words that match.  Cut the tree out and glue onto a file folder.  Cut out the small apple sight words.  Have students match the small apple sight words to the sight words on the tree.

Apples and Apple Tree Writing Pages

Hide word cards around the classroom or put them on your word wall.  Have students write sight words in the apple writing page or the apple tree writing page.

Apple Sight Word Book

Have students create the book and write sight words in the apples.

Apple Sight Word Worksheet

The apples are falling from the tree.  Students need to get the apple basket to the tree before they fall to the ground.  Students will write sight words in the apples.  They start at the basket and follow the apple trail until they get to the tree.

My main goal is to have students actively with their peers while learn their high frequency words

Math Center using Numbers 0-30 Activities in Ten-Frames, Tally Marks, and Words

Do you need an activity for small or whole group? Than this is the activity for you.

I love using this activity in my classroom.  It gives students the opportunity to engage with numbers in worksheets and hands on activities.  I created this activity to put into my centers.  When students are done with the math assignment for the day, I will send them into math centers.  During this time, I will help students that need my one on one attention for the math assignment that day or help students that are struggling with different concepts of math.  Having math centers available gives students the opportunity to review what you have already taught them.

Make sure that you teach your students how to complete each activity before placing them into centers.  The worksheets that come with this activity can be laminated and placed in each center.  Students will use a Vis-a-Vis marker on the laminated worksheet.  When they are done with the worksheet then you can clean it off with a wet paper towel.  This makes it easier for students to be able to do it again without having to waste lots of paper.

In this activity you will find:

Number display for the wall (that has the number, number word, ten-frame, and tally mark)

Number Cards

The different number cards are:
-ten-frame numbers 0-30 cards
-tally marks 0-30 cards
-numbers 0-30 cards
-number words 0-30 cards
-picture cards for 0-30

With the number cards, you can have students match numbers, count out counters, play games with the cards.

It also has center games:

Match Game (you can match all the number cards together)

Match the Number Worksheet (match numbers to their tally marks and number word)

Trace and Draw Center Activity (students trace the number and then draw that many counters in the ten-frame)

Trace and Draw Worksheet (trace number and draw that many counters in the ten-frame)

Missing Numbers Game (Pick two ten-frame cards. Count the counters, place them on the mat, and write down how much the cards add up to.)

More or Less Game (Pick a number card. Place it on the mat. Then in the box write 1 less and 1 more than the number. In the circles, write the number and the two numbers that add up to it.)

High Frequency Words (Literacy First) Complete Word List Homework Packet Bundled

If you need a homework idea for Kindergarten through Second grade than this product is for you.  This is a very basic start for parents.

This activity gives the parents the responsibility of going over the different skills with their children.  There is a guideline when everything is expected to be learned.  I use this in my classroom and it has helped me tremendously.

I have bundled my High Frequency Homework Packets

The products that I have bundled are:

  • Guidelines (when everything is expected to be learned)

  • Uppercase, Lowercase Letter recognition
  • Consonant Sounds
  • Blending Words
  • The first 30 High Frequency Words from Literacy First
  • every list has flashcards that can be sent home for parents to use

This packet is broken into lists.  It comes with 45 lists.

-The first nine list covers uppercase, lowercase letters, and consonant sounds.

-List ten through thirty-nine covers blending words.  I used word families to create the blending words.  The word families are ab, ad, ag, am, an, ap, at, ed, en, et, id, im, in, ip, it, ob, og, op, ot, ub, ug, un, all, ell, and ill.

-List thirty-five through thirty-nine is a mixture of all of the word families.

-Then list forty through forty-five covers High Frequency Words from Literacy First (the, of, and, a, to, in, is, you, that, it at, be, this have, from, or, one, had, by, me, there, use, an, each, which, she, do how, their, if).

-The guideline that comes with this packet gives the parent an understanding of when you want each list to be covered.  Once the list is covered the parent checks off that list on the checklist.  When you get it back then you go over that list with the student and write + if they do know it or write down what they missed.

Parent Guidelines
I created guidelines for each packet.  This gives parents dates on which I would like certain parts of the packet to be completed.  The dates are helpful to have because it gives parents and students goals on when they should know certain things.

Checklists
Checklists are for you and the parents be able to communicate with each other.  There are 2 checklists.  One that parents use and one that you will use in the classroom.  The above checklist is the one that you will use for each student.  I did make one that goes home with parents.  That checklists has an option for comments to be written.  Parents will send the checklist back with a check on when they feel their child is ready to be tested on a list.  You will then test the list.  If students are ready then you will move them on to the next list.  If students are not ready then you will write down the words that they missed in the comments.  Checklists are very helpful for you and the parents to know where students are at in learning the packet.

When testing students on each packet, you could give your para or teacher assistant the responsibility of testing students.  You will just want to make sure that you teach who ever is testing them the process in which you would want them to do it.

I love these packets because once a student is done with one of them then you could move them on to the next one.  This is helpful when students are learning to read.  It gives parents and students goals on learning their sight words.  When students are done learning a packet, I have them eat lunch with me as a reward.  I will have my student pick where they would like to eat.  Sometimes we will even go to the playground and eat on the slides.  Students love having this opportunity to get to spend one on one time with me.

I hope that you will enjoy this as much as I do.
