Splat Triple Consonant Blend Paint Strip Puzzle Match

Do you need a whole group or small group activity then this activity is for you?

During our lesson, I will place the Triple Consonant Blend cards in a pocket chart.  I will make sure that the cards are placed where I can make a category.  I will then show students the words.  We will sound each word out and then place the words under the correct category.  When we have gone over every word, I will give each student a picture.  They will place the picture over the word in the pocket chart.  When we are done, I will take all of the words and pictures out of the pocket chart.  I will then shuffle the words and pictures.  After that, I will give a student either a picture or a word then have them find their match.  I will do this until students are disinterested.  This activity is a lot of fun for students and gets them up and moving.

I will use this activity in a whole group lesson before I use it in small groups or during centers.  I like to use it in a whole group lesson, because it gives me the opportunity to show students how to sound out each word.  It also helps me to see who is understanding and who needs extra time with this skill.

This activity can be used for literacy centers, whole group instruction, or small groups.

Here is some more detailed information on how to use this activity.

Lesson Plan
-I created a lesson plans that could be used for this literacy activity.  The lesson plan comes with common core state standards, and ideas on how to use the word and picture.

Video Ideas and Books that Teach Triple Consonant Word Blends
-I wrote down videos, activities, and books that cover triple consonant blends.

Here is an example on how to use this activity: I play several games with word cards as a whole group.  The main games that I play that my students love is mingle and 2 circle game.  Mingle is where you give each student a card.  You start the game by saying “mingle”.  Students will walk around the room until you say stop.  When you say stop, students are to find the closest person to them to partner up with.  They read their card to them and then switch cards.  I repeat this game until students lose interest.  The 2 circle game is where I have students get into 2 circles (an inner and outer circle).  When they get into their circle they make sure that they have a partner that faces them.  Students read their card to their partner and switch cards.  Then I have the inner circle move to the right one time.  Continue to do this until students have made a complete circle.  You can also give each student a picture or a word card.  Then have them find its match.

Common Core State Standards that are covered in this activity

Splat Triple Consonant Blend Word Sort

Are you looking for a whole group activity that will help your students learn about Triple Consonant Blends then this is your activity?

When I do this activity, I will first start by placing the Triple Consonant Blends in a pocket chart.  I will place them in a way that will allow them to be categorized.  Then I will show the words and have students sound it out with me.  I will then ask students which category the word should go under.  I make sure that all of the words go under the correct category.  The next thing I do is take all of the words out of the pocket chart and give one card to each student.  I will then play Mingle with my students.   Mingle is where you give each student a card.  You start the game by saying “mingle”.  Students will walk around the room until you say stop.  When you say stop, students are to find the closest person to them to partner up with.  They read their card to them and then switch cards.  I repeat this game until students lose interest.  Playing Mingle gives students several opportunities to sound out different words and get help from their peers if they need it.  My students always enjoy when we play this game.  They like the fact that while they are learning they are up and walking around the classroom.  Once you have taught this game to your students, each time that you play it the game gets easier.

Popcorn High Frequency Words Activities Bundled (Literacy First, List A, B, and C)

https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Popcorn-High-Frequency-Words-Activities-Literacy-First-List-A-B-and-C-2955462

Do you need a fun way for your students to interact with high frequency words?  I created a popcorn themed high frequency words activities.
There are 500 High Frequency Words in this bundle.
The words that I used are from Literacy First.

This activity comes in color and black and white.

I like to use this activity during calendar time.  When I show my students the popcorn words, I have them pop up like popcorn and say the word.  I tell my students we learn these words because they will pop up anywhere and it's important to know them.  My students love getting to pop up.

Another thing I do is use actions when going over high frequency words.  I have different actions that I use everyday.  I write those actions down on a popsicle sticks.  I will then pick a popsicle stick and have students complete one of the actions.  Once I pick an action, I have students complete it while saying the word.  It makes learning high frequency words so much more fun.

****To know what actions that I use, you can google sight word actions.  You should be able to pull up different actions that you can use for your high frequency words. ****

Here is some more detailed information on how to use this activity.

This packet comes with:
Letters A-Z on popcorn for word walls
500 High Frequency Words on popcorns
500 High Frequency Words on popcorn containers
Popcorn High Frequency Words Writing Page
Popcorn Tic-Tac-Toe Page
Popcorn Spin the High Frequency Words Page
Take Home Word Cards

Ideas on how to use the Popcorn High Frequency Word Cards:
  1. You can play Go Fish or Memory
  2. Hide the cards around the room and have students find them.
  3. Hide the cards around your classroom.  Have students write them into the sight words writing page.
  4. You can play games like mingle or 2 circles.
  5. Match popcorns to their containers.

https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Popcorn-High-Frequency-Words-Activities-Literacy-First-List-A-B-and-C-2955462

Ideas on how to use the Popcorn High Frequency Words Writing Page:
  1. Hide words around the classroom and have students write the words into the popcorn.  Once all of the popcorn has a word in it then the writing page is complete.
  2. You can have students use the word wall and write words into the popcorns.
  3. Once words have been written into the popcorns, students can go back and rewrite them in a different color.  They can rewrite the words a few times so it will look like a rainbow.

Ideas on how to use the Popcorn Tic-Tac-Toe Page:
There are two different types of tic-tac-toe pages.  The first page has only one tic-tac-toe on it.  I created this to help students that would get overwhelmed with more than one on a page.  The second page has four tic-tac-toes on it.  Have students write words from the word wall into the popcorns and then have them find those popcorn word cards.  Place the popcorn words into a pile.  The first student turns over a card and finds the word on the tic-tac-toe board and colors the popcorn.  The second student turns over a card and finds the word and colors it.  This continues until all of the words have been found.  Whichever student that has 3 of the same color popcorns in a row wins.

Ideas on how to use the Popcorn Spin the High Frequency Words Page:
  • There are two different types of spinning pages.  The first one has four words that students can spin.  The second page has 8 words that students can spin.  This gives you the option of being able to choose the spinner that you feel benefits your students the most.
  • In order to play the spinning game, you have to have a pencil and a paperclip.  Students place the paper clip in the middle of the circle and the pencil goes inside of the paperclip.  A student spins the paperclip and whatever word it lands on that is the word that will be written in the box below.  Students continue to spin the spinner until all boxes have words written in them.

https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Popcorn-High-Frequency-Words-Activities-Literacy-First-List-A-B-and-C-2955462

Ideas on how to use the Take Home Word Cards:
I created these cards so that parents can have the opportunity to work with their children at home with their high frequency words.

This activity compliments my School Years Daily Calendar Journal.  I tell my students that popcorn words are words that pop up everywhere.  We write the words down each day on the daily calendar journal.

I also use the popcorn words as my password.  Before entering or leaving my classroom, my students have to tell me the password.  My students love the opportunity to tell me the popcorn word.  Check out my Password Product that compliments this activity.

My main goal is to have students actively engaged with their peers while learning their high frequency words.

Common Core State Standards that are covered in this activity:
