If you are interested in teaching students’ Long e (-y) while reading a story than this is the activity for you. This activity makes learning Long e (-y) fun and engaging.  The story tells why the Long e (-y) make the sounds that it does.  The wall sign comes with songs and a short story.  My students have really liked using this activity when we are learning about Long e (-y).  I will use this activity the first day to introduce the skill.



This activity comes with:
A Story, Wall Display, Printable Story, and Worksheet
-The Story is a fun way to read about Long e (-y) words.   
-The Wall Display has two songs and a short story that goes along with the longer version.
-The Printable Story can be sent home so students can practice reading.
-Worksheet: students will read sentences and fill in the blanks with the words below.

Black and White Word Cards
-I made a card for every Long e (-y) word used in this activity.  You can either send the cards home or create games using the cards like Memory or Go Fish.  I left some blank so you can fill in your own words.

Lesson Plan
-I created a lesson plans that could be used for this literacy activity.  The lesson plan comes with common core state standards, ideas on how to use the story, wall display, and worksheets. 

Video Ideas and Books that Teach Long 
-I wrote down videos that cover Long e (-y).  I also wrote down books that you can read that will help emphasize on Long e (-y).

Here is an example on how to use the story: On chart paper write down Long e (-y).  Read the story and sing the songs from the wall display.  Have students listen for Long e (-y) words.  Then have them get with a partner and tell them the words that they heard.  After they have told their partner, call on students to tell you what words that they heard and write it on the chart paper.
