ee, ea Word Sort

Are you looking for a whole group activity that will help your students learn ee, ea then this is your activity?

When I do this activity, I will first start by placing ee, ea in a pocket chart. I will place them in a way that will allow them to be categorized. Then I will show the words and have students sound it out with me. I will then ask students which category the word should go under. I make sure that all of the words go under the correct category. The next thing I do is take all of the words out of the pocket chart and give one card to each student. I will then play Mingle with my students. Mingle is where you give each student a card. You start the game by saying “mingle”. Students will walk around the room until you say stop. When you say stop, students are to find the closest person to them to partner up with. They read their card to them and then switch cards. I repeat this game until students lose interest. Playing Mingle gives students several opportunities to sound out different words and get help from their peers if they need it. My students always enjoy when we play this game. They like the fact that while they are learning they are up and walking around the classroom. Once you have taught this game to your students, each time that you play it the game gets easier.

Here is another example of how to use this activity: I play a 2 circles game. The 2 circles game is where I have students get into 2 circles (an inner and outer circle). When they get into their circle they make sure that they have a partner that faces them. Students read their card to their partner and switch cards. Then I have the inner circle move to the right one time. Continue to do this until students have made a complete circle.

The story tells why the ee, ea make the sounds that they do. The wall signs come with songs and a short story. My students have really liked using this activity when we are learning about ee, ea. Here is an example on how to use the story: On chart paper, draw a line in the middle. Write ee on one side and ea on the other side. Read the story and sing the songs from the wall display. Have students listen for ee and ea words. Then have them get with a partner and tell them the words that they heard. After they have told their partner, call on students to tell you what words that they heard and write it on the chart paper under the correct category.

ee, ea Puzzle Word Match

Do you need a whole group or small group activity then this activity is for you?

During our lesson, I will place the ee, ea cards in a pocket chart. I will make sure that the cards are placed where I can make a category. I will then show students the words. We will sound each word out and then place the words under the correct category. When we have gone over every word, I will give each student a picture. They will place the picture over the word in the pocket chart. When we are done, I will take all of the words and pictures out of the pocket chart. I will then shuffle the words and pictures. After that, I will give a student either a picture or a word then have them find their match. I will do this until students are disinterested. This activity is a lot of fun for students and gets them up and moving.

I will use this activity in a whole group lesson before I use it in small groups or during centers. I like to use it in a whole group lesson, because it gives me the opportunity to show students how to sound out each word. It also helps me to see who is understanding and who needs extra time with this skill.

ee, ea Picture Sort

Are you looking for an activity that will keep your entire class engaged? This activity helps your students to learn ee, ea while working with each other.

Before using this activity, I like to use my ee, ea picture and word sort or ee, ea word sort. This will give students the opportunity to practice with the skill before giving them just the pictures.

When I do this activity, I will first start by placing the ee and ea in a pocket chart. I will place them in a way that will allow them to be categorized. Then I will show the pictures and ask students which category the picture should go under. I make sure that all of the pictures go under the correct category. The next thing I do is take all of the pictures out of the pocket chart and give one card to each student. I will then call one student at a time to come put the picture under the correct category. I like doing my lesson in this order because it gives students the opportunity to work with me before I have them try to figure it out on their own.
