One of my favorite websites

One of my favorite websites for children is starfall.  It teaches students reading and math.  It's fun and interactive.  I have used it in my classroom and at my own home.  The website for the most part is free to use.  If you buy their membership then you have more access to other activities that they have available.  I recommend that you buy the membership.  I have and I am not disappointed.  My 3 year old daughter uses it all of the time.  It is a very easy website to use and you don't have to worry about advertisements that your child may click on.

I also like that this website now has apps that you can download onto your phone.  These apps are free to download.

As an PreK teacher I highly recommend this website.  You won't be disappointed.
Click below and have your children try it.

You are PRICELESS!!

God has created us all to be PRICELESS!!!  We should treat each other as priceless.  This world would be very different if we looked at each other with love instead of what I can get out of that person.  I found this awesome song by King and Country called Priceless.  It is a great reminder how we should treat others.  God wants us to love each other before ourselves.

I recommend all of you to listen to this song.

Teaching Our Students!

A good teacher must be able to put himself in the place of those who find learning hard.
                                                                                                                    ~Eliphas Levi

I found this quote today and thought that it was awesome. As a teacher I have strived to see where my students are having difficulties and help them where they are at instead of putting them in a box and teaching them where I think they should be at.

One of my favorite principals that I ever worked for showed me and taught me how to teach students the right way. She taught me to look beyond the curriculum and find a common ground that all of my students are at and start there. At the time, I was teaching the alphabet and it’s sounds to a kindergarten class. I still remember her asking me why are you teaching the alphabet when 90% of your students already know it. Why aren’t you teaching them where they are at instead of where you think they are at. This is when I fell in love with Literacy First. It’s such an amazing curriculum that helps teachers and students learn at the pace the whole class is at. Once my principal gave me the tools, I never looked back and I started teaching students in a whole new way. My kids loved it because they were no longer bored with me trying to teach them things they already knew. I thank God every day for that principal. She taught me how to be a teacher.

oa, ow Worksheets

https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/oa-ow-Worksheets-3832630

If you are looking for morning work, center work, or homework then this activity is for you.

I love using this activity in my classroom.  I teach my students how to use each worksheet and then give it to them to complete.  Each worksheet should be easy to use for your students.  I have several worksheets that cover different phonic skills.  Each morning when my students walk in the door, I give them a worksheet that covers the skill that we are currently working on.  This gives students something to practice while I am taking attendance, checking lunches, and handling anything that arises at the beginning of school.  Giving students the same types of activities, but with different skills creates predictability that helps students know what to expect every day when they walk in.

I do recommend showing students the word and picture sort first.  This will give students the opportunity to go over the pictures and words before completing the worksheets on their own.  It will make this activity much easier if your students understood what each picture is.

Here is some more detailed information about this activity.

oa, ow puzzle match

https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/oa-ow-puzzle-match-3816388

Do you need a whole group or small group activity then this activity is for you?

During our lesson, I will place the oa, ow cards in a pocket chart.  I will make sure that the cards are placed where I can make a category.  I will then show students the words.  We will sound each word out and then place the words under the correct category.  When we have gone over every word, I will give each student a picture.  They will place the picture over the word in the pocket chart.  When we are done, I will take all of the words and pictures out of the pocket chart.  I will then shuffle the words and pictures.  After that, I will give a student either a picture or a word then have them find their match.  I will do this until students are disinterested.  This activity is a lot of fun for students and gets them up and moving.

I will use this activity in a whole group lesson before I use it in small groups or during centers.  I like to use it in a whole group lesson, because it gives me the opportunity to show students how to sound out each word.  It also helps me to see who is understanding and who needs extra time with this skill.

This activity can be used for literacy centers, whole group instruction, or small groups.

Here is an example on how to use this activity: I play several games with word cards as a whole group.  The main games that I play that my students love is mingle and 2 circles game.  Mingle is where you give each student a card.  You start the game by saying “mingle”.  Students will walk around the room until you say stop.  When you say stop, students are to find the closest person to them to partner up with.  They read their card to them and then switch cards.  I repeat this game until students lose interest.  The 2 circles game is where I have students get into 2 circles (an inner and outer circle).  When they get into their circle they make sure that they have a partner that faces them.  Students read their card to their partner and switch cards.  Then I have the inner circle move to the right one time.  Continue to do this until students have made a complete circle.
